When we set out on the steelworks journey, we asked ourselves how we could combine the unbreakable strength of steel with its incredible flexibility. We also asked ourselves how we could create a riding experience that allows you to exploit every ounce of performance you have to give, as well as allowing you to enjoy the ride.

As engineers who love precision, we were proud to tackle the challenge. And by deploying on our unparalleled knowledge of working with steel, we went about re-engineering the bicycle to create a revolutionary frame.

The result is steelworks: A design that’s as individual as you are as a rider.

PIONEERING ENGINEERING

Something like steelworks has never been done before. We have seen other steel bikes in the past, but none of them have combined this level of precision engineering with the inherent benefits that exist in the DNA of steel. Such as its potential to be stiff and flexible at the same time.

But making a bike that combined these opposite traits was in itself an engineering challenge. To achieve this, we have adopted the technology commonly applied in the automotive industry and brought this to an even more sophisticated level, involving things such as the 3d laser and robotic welding. With parts as thin as 0.7mm and a complex shape, this is no mean feat.

The result speaks for itself – a flowing, organic shape combined with the innate flexibility and strength of the dual-phase, 600 MPa steel. steelworks is a pioneer and an individual, just like you are.

THE BEST THINGS COME IN THREES

steelworks is based on what we like to call ‘the magic trinity’. This involves using high-strength DP-K® 330Y590T steel, half-shell technology and automated laser welding. Our zinc-coated steel has a very high tensile strength of 590 MPa. That means it’s really strong, resistant to corrosion, and will last a lifetime. In fact, it‘s so strong that it actually provides 50% more stiffness in the bottom bracket area than is the case with all the other conventional carbon bikes tested. That‘s 100% the power of steel.

With the half-shell technology, we transform two steel sheets into a very complex shape by using an advanced deep-drawing process. And we do it without causing a dent, wrinkle or crack. Finally, the two half-shells are married by automated laser welding with extraordinary precision.

Putting together an optimum combination of these three factors is indeed an engineering feat that makes steelworks so special, thereby challenging the status quo of frame engineering in the roadbike industry.

Thanks to its unique DNA, steel provides us with the elasticity we need to make the bionic steelworks frame more comfortable to ride. The seat tube performs like a natural spring thanks to its curvature, which enhances sitting and riding comfort. Steel also provides extraordinary stiffness to maximize the biomechanical power you can apply at the bottom bracket.

With two sizes to choose from for riders up to 1.66 m and 1.86 m, three distinctive color finishes and two versions, you‘re sure to find the bike that‘s right for you. Can you build a bike that’s unbreakable? At least there is now an unbreakable frame. Because in the DIN EN ISO-4210 torture test our steel frame could not be broken. Thanks to the combination of high flexibility and high rigidity in the right places, it simply didn’t give in. Something that only steel makes possible! And now what? Well, we’re still riding it!
