Hot-rolled carbon steels for heat treatment

Roller chains made of carbon steel

Unalloyed and alloyed carbon steels from thyssenkrupp are intended for heat treatment, in which important properties such as hardness, wear resistance and toughness are controlled.

A distinction is made between case-hardening steels, unalloyed and alloyed heat-treatable steels and spring steels. Carbon steels are suitable for high static and dynamic loads.Typical applications for C-steels are shafts, gear parts, stabilizers, roller chains, springs, saw blades and seat adjuster units.

Heat treatment of carbon steels

In heat treatment a fundamental distinction can be made between the hardening and tempering processes. Hardening comprises the heating and quenching of a workpiece in order to increase its hardness and strength. In tempering, the quenched and hardened workpiece is reheated in order to adjust the optimal hardness and toughness properties.
